As we approach the end of our exciting first year of Bow Sixth Form, it is an absolute delight to reflect on the year we have had and the achievements of our supportive staff and Year 12 students. We are proud of the supportive, community ethos that we have built in the sixth form; one that allows the students to flourish – which they have – and grow, both as individuals and as part of a team.
From exciting lessons in challenging new A-Level subjects to volunteering in the local community, our Year 12 have been filled with enthusiasm about the wide-ranging opportunities available to them; opportunities designed to fully prepare them for their future, whether that is moving on to university or finding their place in the world of work.
Bow Sixth Form students have benefitted from one to one mentoring from Aon and Rothschild, work experience placements including schools, a pharmacy, an architect’s firm, the National Archives and the Bank of England and have received clear advice on their potential next steps from school staff and community partners. We are immensely proud of the way the students have developed the maturity and independence to proactively pursue these opportunities, with students voyaging to Canada and America this summer on transatlantic programmes, undertaking summer schools in Oxford, Cambridge and Bristol and two budding scientists taking up research posts at UCL with the Nuffield Bursary Scheme.
More importantly, the students have maintained this proactivity and aspiration throughout the year, tickling our taste buds with their baking and reaching new heights trampolining. We have students who are members of the SEO Scholars and Social Mobility Foundation programmes, as well as a team of budding entrepreneurs, ready to make their first million with Young Enterprise. One of these students recently won the Young Enterprise National Journey Award, gracing newspaper pages and Twitter feeds, rewarded with money for a new laptop and a Google Internship.
It has been both rewarding and exciting to see the excellent progress that the students have made this year. With a new Head of Year 12 and 13 on board, and with the support of all the staff at Bow School, we are very excited to see our first set of the results in the summer and for the possibilities that the new, larger Year 12 group will bring.
In addition to on GCSE Results Day, 20th August, we will be enrolling new students at the school on Friday 21st August, from 10.00am – 12.00pm, and Monday 24th to Wednesday 26th August, from 10.00am – 12.00pm.
