Star in the Community Awards

Inspirational local heroes were celebrated at an awards ceremony, to celebrate the incredible community work We know there’s loads of unsung community heroes living in Poplar, so it was fantastic that three of our residents were recognised at the STAR in the Community Awards on 26th January.

Abu Saeed Ahsan won the Young People’s Award.  He’s been a volunteer police cadet for two and half years, and the Police couldn’t be prouder of him!

Sandra Chalmers was shortlisted for the Bringing People Together Award. Sandra is Chair of the Brownfield Estate Board, one of the most active HARCA Boards.

Richard Caley, Chair of the Lansbury West Estate Board, won the Inspirational Resident Award for Poplar HARCA. You may recognise him as the ringmaster from our Chrisp Street Festival, or as ‘Chef’ at community events across Poplar.

The awards were open to residents of 8 housing associations from Tower Hamlets, and competition was fierce so it was a massive achievement for all three to reach the finals. Well done guys!
