Sunday workout in a garden for Good Gym runners and Poplar Harca helpers

A team of volunteers gave an older resident an early Christmas present by clearing his garden, which was overgrown and becoming a dumping ground for litter. Good Gym volunteers run missions for older people aged 60+; clearing gardens, changing lightbulbs and doing odd-jobs for people who struggle to do them alone.

On Sunday 27 November 2016, two Good Gym volunteers were joined by Poplar Harca colleagues Dave Tull (Housing), Danny Kelleher (who you may recognise as the Estate Services Bulk Rubbish Driver), ASB Officer Neil Smith and his wife Vicky. Dave said “The resident was really happy and relieved to have their garden cleared, we were glad to help out in our own time and to make a positive contribution to the community.”

Want to get involved?

Whether you’re new to running or are trying to beat your marathon personal best, Good Gym would love to have you involved in doing some good in your area.

You can run in a pack to work on a community project and/or support older people in the community by doing one off missions or committing to a weekly social visit as part of your runs.
