Boishakhi Mela Parade

The spectacular Boishakhi Mela Paradeis an annual highlight on the cultural calendar, this year taking place on 30 June 2019. Local residents are invited to participate in three FREE arts workshops run by renowned outdoor arts company Emergency Exit Arts who are leading on the celebratory procession which traditionally launches this much loved annual event.

The theme for 2019 is The Rivers of Bangladesh, and the procession will be divided into 3 sections exploring the land, sea and air around the rivers. The workshops are a chance to get hands-on in the creation of costumes, flags, props or other elements, all of which take inspiration from the natural world and traditions of Bangladesh.

You can also showcase your creations en route from Brick Lane to Weavers Fields on the day itself, by joining in this colourful and vibrant parade which take place at 11am on the morning of the mela.

Those of all ages and abilities are welcome at all or any of our free drop-in sessions, though we would recommend booking as spaces are limited.
