A Full House for Spotlight’s Christmas Play
Avid readers of SayIT might have seen the advert go out for Spotlight’s Christmas play Tense last month, a modern day retelling of A Christmas Carol, devised by the Youth Theatre at Spotlight, and created by HighRise Theatre Company. The show opened on the 13th December for one night only, with Spotlight welcoming a full house of audience members through its doors to see the play.
Mrs Scroodge began the show as a stressed and irritable East End cab firm owner, struggling to keep her business afloat with the rising success of Uber, bullying her workforce and paying them all well below the minimum wage. By the end of the show, she was transformed, with the help of the Angel Agents of #Past, #Present, and #Future, who showed her what would happen if she didn’t change her ways.
Highlights included a visit from the priest, the moment whipped cream went EVERYWHERE, Mariam’s impressive range of accents, and Bryan shooting himself in the head with the NERF gun given to him by a newly festive Scroodge.
Tense was the perfect way to welcome in the Christmas season, and left us feeling even more festive than the December snow.
