Unity Kitchen: Pie in the Sky review
Nestled in a green haven just off the A12, the Bromley by Bow Centre Cafe offers hearty lunches for a reasonable price. Miriam, a local resident went for a visit.
The cafe is at the heart of the bustling Bromley by Bow Centre and is popular with staff and visitors alike. The occasional ‘social entrepreneur’ can even be spotted typing away at his/her laptop, fuelled by their coffee and cake (I thoroughly recommend their brownies).
For the artistically inclined, there is a colourful, free to use piano and the walls are populated by pieces produced in the Arts East group. In the summer, you can enjoy the beautiful Bob’s Park from the picnic benches outside the cafe.
Run by Unity Kitchen, a social enterprise that offers jobs and apprenticeships to people with disabilities, the cafe is open from 9am – 3.30pm Monday to Friday.
For lunch they offer a meat and a vegetarian main meal for £4.50. I enjoyed their three bean chilli with spaghetti and a glass of homemade lemonade. For a lighter lunch, soup, baguettes and salads are available daily.
