Young Volunteers brightening up the local area
After consulting with a group of young volunteers, the Spotlight community heroes project was set up over the summer holidays to give young people the chance to go out into the community and give back to local causes. The group of 20 young volunteers ranged between 14 – 19 years old.
Each Spotlight Centre (Lansbury, Mile End, Bromley North & Poplar) hosted a local project with young volunteers moving to each location from the other centres.
The first project took place at Mile End where the young volunteers spruced up the Bow Brew flower beds in the St Paul’s Way Community Centre garden.
The second project was at the Aberfeldy Community Centre where our young volunteers supported the Aberfeldy Big Local project to create and design a promotional banner for the Aberfeldy Big Fun Day. They also helped the team by providing ideas and solutions on how to engage with young people in the local area.
The third project took place at Bromley North where the young people held a cake sale to raise money for Great Ormond Street Hospital. 19 volunteers took part and sold cakes at Lansbury Spotlight and Poplar HARCA’s Head Office. In total they raised £76!
Our new group of young social activists are already planning for the Autumn term and are looking for more people to join them! Please email Thom Palser via firstname.lastname@example.org to find out more information.
